About the position

Westminster Christian School is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Network Support Specialist to join our team. This role is vital in ensuring the efficient operation of our computer networks and providing essential help desk support to users. The Network Support Specialist will be responsible for maintaining the integrity of the school's network infrastructure, troubleshooting network issues, and ensuring that all systems are functioning optimally. This position requires a proactive approach to network management, including regular monitoring and maintenance of network hardware and software, as well as implementing security measures to protect sensitive data. In addition to technical skills, the ideal candidate will possess strong communication abilities, as they will be interacting with faculty, staff, and students to resolve technical issues and provide training on new technologies. The Network Support Specialist will also be involved in planning and executing network upgrades and expansions, ensuring that the school's technology needs are met as they evolve. This position may require occasional evening or weekend work to accommodate system updates or special projects. Candidates should be prepared to work in a collaborative environment, contributing to a culture of teamwork and support within the IT department. The successful candidate will be expected to stay current with emerging technologies and best practices in network management, ensuring that Westminster Christian School remains at the forefront of educational technology.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and monitor the school's network infrastructure to ensure optimal performance.
  • Provide help desk support to users, troubleshooting and resolving technical issues in a timely manner.
  • Implement and manage network security measures to protect sensitive data.
  • Assist in planning and executing network upgrades and expansions as needed.
  • Train faculty, staff, and students on new technologies and software applications.
  • Document network configurations, changes, and procedures for future reference.
  • Collaborate with other IT staff to support the overall technology needs of the school.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in network support or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of network hardware and software, including routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • Familiarity with network security protocols and best practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues effectively.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with users at all levels.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in an educational environment is a plus.
  • Certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA, or similar are preferred.
  • Knowledge of cloud computing and virtualization technologies.
