About the position

The IT Operations Automation Engineer/Developer II position is a critical role within the IT Infrastructure Automation team, located in the Olive Branch, MS area. Individuals in this role are tasked with delivering robust, scalable, and innovative automation solutions that enhance day-to-day operations, improve efficiencies, and enrich incident management for stakeholders and the business. The engineer will lead collaborative discussions with stakeholders to ensure that customer needs are not only met but exceeded, fostering a proactive approach to analyzing trends and identifying future opportunities that align with team and business objectives. As part of a relatively new team, the IT Operations Automation Engineer will play a pivotal role in shaping the team's strategy and establishing best practices. This includes providing end-to-end automation solutions, starting from the requirement gathering and discovery phase all the way through to production roll-out. The engineer will develop solutions using industry best practices while adhering to internal standards, providing technical insights during the design and development stages. Clear communication of project status, risks, and challenges to stakeholders is essential, along with presenting iterative demonstrations to showcase development progress. The role requires the engineer to leverage their experience to bridge the knowledge gap between technical and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring that solutions are built to 'fail gracefully' in the event of unexpected errors. The engineer will also be responsible for resolving defects and performance issues identified during testing, supporting User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and rollout phases. Working within project planning constraints, the engineer will communicate any identified project risks and issues to the project manager, providing valuable inputs to the change control process.

Responsibilities

  • Provide end-to-end automations from the requirement gathering/discovery phase to production roll-out.
  • Help set the team strategy and create best practices as part of a relatively new team.

  • Provide technical insight during design and development stages.
  • Clearly communicate project status, risks, and challenges with stakeholders.
  • Present stakeholders with iterative demonstrations to show development progress.
  • Bridge the knowledge gap between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Build solutions that 'fail gracefully' when encountering unexpected errors.
  • Resolve defects and other performance problems discovered in testing.
  • Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and rollout phases.
  • Work within project planning constraints and communicate identified project risks and issues to the project manager.
  • Provide inputs to the change control process.

Requirements

  • Typically requires 2+ years of experience in developing, maintaining, and supporting automation.
  • At least 2 years of hands-on Python experience.
  • Experience with Ansible Engine, REST API, or Kubernetes strongly desired.
  • At least 2 years of hands-on experience with 2 or more of the following: Javascript, SQL, PowerShell, and Ansible.
  • Familiar with ServiceNow and xMatters.
  • Familiar with SDLC, SAFe, and Agile methodologies.
  • Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of a broad range of hardware and software products.
  • Experience technically leading teams is an advantage.
  • Bachelor's degree or technical institute degree/certificate in a relevant field or equivalent work experience.
  • Good analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving skills to evaluate business problems and apply knowledge to identify appropriate solutions.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and multidiscipline team, learn and apply new skills and techniques to respond to business needs.
  • Ability to communicate in English effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Good knowledge of IT and a passion to automate it all, motivated to stay up to date with the newest technologies and proactively bring ideas to the table.
  • Proactiveness and collaboration, with an openness to change and a drive to support initiatives to improve existing processes.
