About the position

At Cencora, our IT Operations Automation Engineer/Developer II plays a crucial role in enhancing our IT infrastructure through automation. This position is part of the IT Infrastructure Automation team, which is dedicated to delivering robust, scalable, and innovative solutions that improve day-to-day operations and efficiencies. The engineer will engage in collaborative discussions with stakeholders to ensure that their needs are not only met but exceeded. This role requires a proactive approach to analyzing trends and identifying future opportunities that align with team and business objectives. The engineer will be responsible for providing end-to-end automation solutions, starting from the requirement gathering and discovery phase all the way to production roll-out. As a relatively new team, this position offers the opportunity to help shape the team strategy and establish best practices. The engineer will develop solutions using industry best practices while adhering to internal standards, providing technical insights during the design and development stages. Clear communication of project status, risks, and challenges to stakeholders is essential, along with presenting iterative demonstrations to showcase development progress. In this role, the engineer will build solutions that can handle unexpected errors gracefully and will be responsible for resolving defects and performance issues discovered during testing. Support during User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and rollout phases is also a key responsibility. The engineer will work within project planning constraints, effectively communicating any identified risks and issues to the project manager, and contributing to the change control process.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver robust, scalable, and innovative automation solutions to improve day-to-day operations.
  • Lead collaborative discussions with stakeholders to ensure their needs are met and exceeded.
  • Provide end-to-end automation from requirement gathering to production roll-out.
  • Help set team strategy and create best practices for the new team.
  • Develop solutions adhering to industry best practices and internal standards.
  • Provide technical insight during design and development stages.
  • Communicate project status, risks, and challenges clearly to stakeholders.
  • Present iterative demonstrations to stakeholders to show development progress.
  • Build solutions that fail gracefully when encountering unexpected errors.
  • Resolve defects and performance problems discovered in testing.
  • Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and rollout phases.

Requirements

  • Typically requires 2+ years of experience in developing, maintaining, and supporting automation.
  • At least 2 years of hands-on Python experience.
  • Experience with Ansible Engine, REST API, or Kubernetes strongly desired.
  • At least 2 years of hands-on experience with 2 or more of the following: Javascript, SQL, PowerShell, and Ansible.
  • Familiar with ServiceNow and xMatters.
  • Familiar with SDLC, SAFe, and Agile methodologies.
  • Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of a broad range of hardware and software products.
  • Experience technically leading teams is an advantage.
  • Bachelor's degree or technical institute degree/certificate in a relevant field or equivalent work experience.
  • Good analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving skills to evaluate business problems and apply knowledge to identify appropriate solutions.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and multidisciplinary team, learn and apply new skills and techniques to respond to business needs.
  • Ability to communicate in English effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Good knowledge of IT and a passion for automation, motivated to stay updated with the newest technologies.

  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.
  • Knowledge of containerization technologies beyond Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and tools.
