About the position

The IT Operations Coordinator plays a vital role in the Scituate Public School District, reporting directly to the Director of Educational Technology. This position is essential for planning, coordinating, and ensuring the seamless operation and optimization of the school's technology infrastructure. The IT Operations Coordinator is responsible for the design, installation, and connectivity of computer and network systems, ensuring the stable operation of the organization's IT assets. This role requires a proactive approach to assess both near and long-term network capacity needs, collaborating closely with the Director to implement strategic plans that meet existing and future requirements. In addition to network capacity planning, the IT Operations Coordinator will create and maintain comprehensive documentation related to network configuration, mapping, processes, and service records. The role involves overseeing both new and existing equipment, including hardware and software upgrades related to network or telephony equipment. The Coordinator will respond to incoming tech tickets regarding equipment and connectivity issues, demonstrating excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with staff and students. Maintaining a high level of professionalism and conduct in all duties is paramount. The responsibilities also include analyzing, troubleshooting, and repairing computer systems, hardware, and peripherals, as well as documenting, maintaining, upgrading, or replacing hardware and software systems. The Coordinator will support, monitor, test, and troubleshoot hardware and software issues related to LAN and WiFi, install and maintain network backbone and wiring, and manage Microsoft Windows Servers. Additionally, the role encompasses supporting a VMware virtual server environment, managing user accounts, providing end-user support, performing regular system backups, and maintaining accurate records of technology inventory. The IT Operations Coordinator will also serve as the VoIP telephone system manager, ensuring high-level telecommunications throughout the district, and will perform any other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Director of Educational Technology to assess network capacity needs and implement strategic plans.
  • Create and maintain documentation related to network configuration, mapping, processes, and service records.
  • Oversee new and existing equipment, hardware, and software upgrades.
  • Plan and implement improvements or modifications to network infrastructure components.
  • Respond to incoming tech tickets regarding equipment and connectivity problems.
  • Analyze, troubleshoot, and repair computer systems, hardware, and peripherals.
  • Document, maintain, upgrade, or replace hardware and software systems.
  • Support, monitor, test, and troubleshoot hardware and software issues related to LAN and WiFi.
  • Install and maintain network backbone and wiring to interconnect computers throughout the school.
  • Create and deploy hard drive images on Windows and Mac devices.
  • Manage and maintain Microsoft Windows Servers, including system policies.
  • Monitor and maintain network infrastructure, DNS, and DHCP.
  • Support VMware virtual server environment and manage offsite backups.
  • Support and maintain faculty and staff user account information, including rights and security.
  • Provide support for all LAN/WiFi-based applications.
  • Perform regular system backups and maintain daily event logs.
  • Maintain accurate records of technology inventory, including computers and printers.
  • Assist in the distribution of student, faculty, and classroom laptops/Chromebooks.
  • Serve as the VoIP telephone system manager, ensuring high-level telecommunications throughout the district.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

Requirements

  • Two (2) to four (4) years work experience as a Network Administrator.
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
  • Proven experience with enterprise-level LAN, WAN, and WLAN engineering, design, and implementation.
  • Proven experience with Active Directory, Google Workspace Console, and VMware.
  • Proven experience with Windows Server.
  • Proven ability to engineer routers, hubs, switches, and access points.
  • Proven experience with network capacity planning, network security principles, and general network management best practices.
  • Excellent technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and Internet standards.
  • Strong knowledge of network management and analysis tools.
  • Working technical knowledge of PBX, voice mail, interactive voice services, call management systems, and telecommunication accounting systems.
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
  • Current authorization to work in the United States by the first day of employment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in a school environment.
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science or Engineering.
  • Hold industry standard certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP).
  • Knowledge and understanding of system flow charts, data processing concepts, and telecommunications principles.
  • Ability to create and maintain thorough technical documentation.
  • Preferred knowledge with Pearson Access Next, Securly, and ticketing systems.
