About the position

The IT Portfolio Manager is responsible for establishing and maintaining a robust IT portfolio management capability for a department of over 1000 IT professionals at UCSF. This role involves leading a team of IT portfolio specialists to support and optimize UCSF's IT investments in initiatives, projects, and resources. The manager will ensure alignment with UCSF's mission and governance, oversee project prioritization, budgeting, and reporting, and enhance service delivery to internal stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Leads the design and ongoing optimization of UCSF Project Portfolio Management tools and processes.
  • Recommends standards for ensuring the IT portfolio is standard, robust, and supportive of decision-making.
  • Leads the Information Technology portfolio and program performance reporting, including trends, service levels, and other KPIs.
  • Identifies and analyzes portfolio and project level risks impacting performance.
  • Liaises with PMO Leaders, Project Managers, IT Leadership, and portfolio management for alignment across demand and governance frameworks.
  • Leads the demand management program for technology and process-related work prioritization.
  • Establishes knowledge-based management using tools like ServiceNow, Wiki, Teams, and OneDrive.
  • Creates and manages analytical reports detailing resource utilization and future demand projections.
  • Supports the IT leadership team in developing multi-year forecasting for IT teams.
  • Develops recommendations for process improvement opportunities.
  • Supports integration of various tools into the Portfolio Management system.
  • Leads IT portfolio capability roadmap activities to align with business needs.
  • Manages the IT portfolio team, setting clear expectations and ensuring comprehensive staff training and development.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in IT portfolio management or related field.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing teams.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience with project management methodologies and tools.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders.

Nice-to-haves
