About the position

The IT Professional 2 - Data Engineer position at the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) involves a range of responsibilities centered around the analysis, development, implementation, maintenance, and modification of computer operations, systems, networks, databases, applications, and information security. This role is crucial for ensuring the smooth operation of IT functions within the DMV, which serves the public in various capacities. The incumbent will be expected to perform journey-level duties and may also take on a supervisory role, leading lower-level IT staff as assigned. This position is located in Carson City, NV, and requires excellent time management and interpersonal communication skills. Candidates for this position should have a strong background in data engineering and analytics, with experience in tools such as Tableau and Microsoft Power BI. Proficiency in data science skills, including statistical analysis, data manipulation, and data visualization, is essential. Familiarity with programming languages such as Python or R, as well as experience with AWS services like AWS Glue and AWS Data Migration Service (DMS), is highly desirable. Additionally, the role requires knowledge of relational database management systems, particularly Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL, along with experience in using Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), Integration Services (SSIS), and Analysis Services (SSAS). Responsibilities

  • Analyze and develop computer operations, systems, networks, databases, applications, and information security.
  • Implement and maintain IT systems and applications to ensure optimal performance.
  • Modify existing systems and applications based on user needs and technological advancements.
  • Lead and supervise lower-level IT staff as assigned, providing guidance and support.
  • Utilize data visualization tools such as Tableau and Microsoft Power BI to present data insights.
  • Perform statistical analysis and data manipulation using programming languages like Python or R.
  • Manage and administer relational databases, including Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL.
  • Develop and execute ETL processes using AWS Glue and AWS Data Migration Service (DMS).
  • Create reports and dashboards using Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
  • Collaborate with other departments to understand their IT needs and provide solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, management information systems, or a closely related field.
  • Two years of professional IT experience relevant to the duties of the position, including computer operations, systems administration, or database administration.
  • Experience as an IT Professional I in Nevada State service or four years of relevant technical experience as an IT Technician IV or above in Nevada State service.
  • Strong knowledge of data visualization tools such as Tableau and Microsoft Power BI.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R for data analysis and manipulation.
  • Experience with AWS services, particularly AWS Glue and AWS Data Migration Service (DMS).
  • Familiarity with relational database management systems, especially Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL.

Nice-to-haves

  • Specialized certification in relevant IT fields (to be identified at the time of recruitment).
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), Integration Services (SSIS), and Analysis Services (SSAS).
