About the position

The IT Program Manager is responsible for overseeing programs and large projects within a department or business unit, focusing on improving project management processes and methodologies. This senior-level position involves managing a highly complex or enterprise-wide program consisting of multiple projects, mentoring project managers, and ensuring the successful delivery of all projects on time and within budget. The role requires strong communication skills to interface with senior management and the ability to adapt to changing business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and provide work direction to a team of project managers and business leaders to determine program scope and develop a workable plan.
  • Serve as a communication clearing house for all formal program status reporting.
  • Assess dependencies amongst the projects in the program and monitor their progress to ensure alignment with program objectives.
  • Develop and maintain all program deliverables throughout the program lifecycle and review project managers' deliverables.
  • Identify program risks, develop a risk management plan, and actively manage risks throughout the program lifecycle.
  • Identify and communicate the collective resource requirements of the program and work with managers on resource planning.
  • Manage interactions between customers, vendors, and internal project team members to ensure positive outcomes.
  • Develop and manage the governance structure and change control process for the program.
  • Responsible for status reporting, program estimating, monthly cost accounting, and vendor invoice processing.
  • Develop and monitor vendor deliverables in compliance with binding statements of work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field is highly desirable.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or Program Management Professional (PgPM) certification preferred.
  • High technical expertise and advanced knowledge in software development, ERP applications, or critical demand specialty.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience managing multiple high complexity projects in a matrix resource environment.
  • Experience influencing and managing project teams without formal direct reporting relationships.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of PMI-based project management competency areas and methodologies.
  • Strong analytical skills for budgeting, forecasting, monitoring, process management, risk management, quality control, and reporting.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills to interact with all levels of management.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to develop and maintain relationships.

Nice-to-haves
