About the position

The IT Project Management Office (PMO) Manager leads a team of IT project managers to oversee a variety of technology projects critical to the University. This role balances team management and project management responsibilities, ensuring high-quality outcomes through effective project management practices and continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage an IT project management group, including recruiting, hiring, training, and evaluating staff.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the organizational structure and programs to ensure success and appropriate use of resources.
  • Ensure project completion within schedule, budget, and design constraints; solve complex problems and provide alternative methods for achieving goals.
  • Create and execute business and technical plans, revising as necessary to meet changing needs.
  • Oversee preparation and submission of documentation such as proposals and progress reports.
  • Perform the full range of project management cycle: initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, controlling, and closing projects.
  • Create project charters defining project scope, goals, objectives, and risks.
  • Manage stakeholder engagement and facilitate discussions to drive consensus.
  • Create and implement project plans and work breakdown structures aligned with business and technical plans.
  • Evaluate and assess metrics and project effectiveness, proactively monitoring risks and trends.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Five or more years of progressively responsible project management experience.
  • Experience leading and managing a team of IT project and program managers.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize work and manage multiple projects.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of university operations and administration.
  • Ability to assemble and lead cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with Agile and Waterfall project management methodologies.
  • Proven experience in developing and maintaining complex project plans.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with project and portfolio management tools.
  • Solid experience with MS Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience in recruiting, training, and coaching IT staff.
