About the position

The IT Project Manager will support the State of Michigan's Project Management Office, focusing on the Department of Treasury and the Michigan Gaming Control Board. This senior role involves managing a multi-year high-priority project related to PCI compliance, ensuring that policies and secure configurations are implemented according to PCI-DSS requirements. The position requires strong communication skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-vendor environment, with a mix of on-site and remote work.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize the State of Michigan's Project Portfolio Management Tool (Clarity) to prepare project schedules, assign resources, and manage budgets.
  • Prepare information for presentations geared to various audiences, including executives and project team members.
  • Monitor, control, and communicate project progress by managing cost, schedule, scope, resources, quality, and risks.
  • Communicate project status clearly and accurately with stakeholders, including project sponsors and management.
  • Foster collaboration between technical and business teams to obtain consensus and commitment.
  • Develop and maintain key project management deliverables throughout the project lifecycle, including Project Charter, Schedule, Budget, and Communication Plan.
  • Ensure adherence to the SUITE PMM and System Engineering Methodology (SEM) throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Facilitate and enforce the Change Management process for any deviations from the approved project scope, schedule, or budget.
  • Create Corrective Action Plans for projects in yellow or red status and ensure project artifacts are updated accordingly.
  • Review vendor contracts to manage deliverables and adherence to approval procedures.
  • Facilitate interactions among stakeholders to clarify expectations and ensure deliverables are completed.

Requirements

  • In-depth knowledge of and experience in IT project management, including industry standards and best practices.
  • Proven record of delivering projects on time and on budget in a formal project manager role.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining project budgets, schedules, change requests, and risk and issue logs.
  • Experience developing and delivering project status updates.
  • Experience using project portfolio management systems and tools, such as Clarity.
  • Good working knowledge of MS Project.

  • Experience handling a variety of stakeholders and system owners from other departments/program areas.
  • Experience managing a multi-vendor environment in a government setting.
  • Experience managing IRS/PCI environments.
