About the position

At Houston Methodist, the IT Project Manager I position is an entry-level project manager role focused on learning and development. The IT Project Manager I is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating activities of small to medium scale and complexity technology projects under the guidance of management. This role ensures that the goals and objectives of projects are accomplished within prescribed time frames, funding parameters, and requirements. The Project Manager I executes project plans and activities following project management best practices, ensuring quality and integrity of the information throughout the entire life cycle of the project. The focus and assignments of the Project Manager I are on projects that are established and repeatable year over year. Under the guidance of management, the Project Manager I ensures that project outcomes match agreed-upon customer expectations. This includes effectively communicating project information to stakeholders through established channels and timelines, leading project-related meetings, and gaining consensus on outcomes and goals. The role also involves planning and organizing projects, assisting with formulating and defining the scope and objectives of the project, determining time frames, funding limitations, and procedures for accomplishing projects according to Portfolio and Process Management Office guidelines. The Project Manager I identifies and schedules project deliverables, milestones, and required tasks, establishing the project quality plan, including the application of PMO testing standards, and establishing project risks and mitigation plans. In terms of finance, the Project Manager I prepares the Authorization for Expenditure (AFE) for the project and assists IT Financial Analysts with the approval process, managing Purchase Orders (PO) and invoices throughout the project life cycle, and closing all project expenditures at the end of the project. The role also encourages growth and innovation by proposing opportunities to improve the Portfolio & Process Management Office and participating in improvement initiatives. The Project Manager I is expected to proactively manage their own professional development and complete an Individual Development Plan (IDP). Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, or related discipline with an information technology focus, or four years of experience managing small to medium scale projects in lieu of degree.
  • Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to multitask and manage multiple projects in a cross-functional environment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members, and co-workers in a customer service-focused manner.
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of business needs, with the ability to establish and maintain a high level of customer trust and confidence.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively facilitate meetings.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to operate under a dual reporting relationship (IT, customers).
  • Solid knowledge in Microsoft Office products.
