About the position

The IT Project Manager I at the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) is responsible for leading small to medium-sized projects within the healthcare environment. This role involves developing project timelines, organizing project teams, and managing resources to ensure successful project outcomes. The position requires collaboration with Project or Program Managers on larger projects, providing support in planning and execution, and ensuring quality control throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Lead small to medium-sized projects, developing timelines and tracking progress.
  • Create and plan project activities, organizing and managing the project team.
  • Deploy and organize resources, developing project plans and schedules.
  • Manage project issues, providing guidance and support to team members.
  • Work with Project or Program Managers on larger projects, supporting timelines and project plans.
  • Deliver outcomes against approved estimates and discuss ideas to gain commitment on recommendations.
  • Understand and articulate the project's business value and associated metrics.
  • Identify commonalities and differences within team members' goals to generate alternatives for achieving results.
  • Provide assistance and recommendations with quality assurance tools and processes.
  • Identify issues, monitor projects, and measure risk factors, ensuring quality control of processes and deliverables.
  • Assist in translating business requirements into practical IT solutions and provide technical guidance to the project team.
  • Build effective networks of internal and external subject matter expert contacts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in business administration or a related field.
  • Three years of project coordination experience in a service environment is required.
  • Experience in an information technology related field is preferred.
  • Working towards specialized certification preferred (e.g., Change Management, Process Improvement, Project Management).
