About the position

The IT Project Manager is responsible for overseeing and controlling project schedules, resources, scope, and risks to ensure that project goals and objectives are met. This role involves collaboration with stakeholders, project steering committees, and senior management to facilitate project tasks and maintain quality standards. The IT Project Manager will lead project meetings, manage team performance, and ensure that all team members are equipped with the necessary tools and training. Additionally, the role requires monitoring project milestones, assessing variances, and implementing changes to keep the project on track.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and control project schedules, resources, scope, and risks.
  • Ensure stakeholders take necessary steps to achieve project goals and objectives.
  • Work with project steering committee and senior project management to resource project tasks.
  • Facilitate agency project meetings, communicating roles and expectations.
  • Ensure project team members have the tools and training required to perform effectively.
  • Manage project scope using data sources to support negotiations related to time, scope, and quality.
  • Develop, monitor, and coordinate project activities such as scheduling, tracking, and reporting.
  • Identify opportunities or weaknesses within projects and recommend changes to improve performance.
  • Provide work direction and leadership to project activities, including scheduling and assignment of work.
  • Monitor project milestones and critical dates to identify potential schedule jeopardy.
  • Identify ways to resolve schedule issues and keep management informed.
  • Assess variances from the project plan and implement necessary changes to meet objectives.
  • Conduct formal reviews with business sponsors at project completion to confirm acceptance and satisfaction.
  • Provide constructive feedback to the team regarding project performance.
  • Develop and maintain productive relationships with project sponsors, vendors, and key clients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or specialized training.
  • Three years of IT project management or equivalent IT team leadership experience.
  • PMP certification from PMI or equivalent certification.
  • Five years' experience leading high complexity projects within the last two years.
  • Expertise in MS Project, MS Visio, SharePoint, and all MS O365 Software.
  • Experience working in state government.
  • Experience working in an outsourced environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Experience leading/coordinating vendor-managed projects within the last five years.
