About the position

The IT Project Manager at United Way of King County is responsible for overseeing the planning and implementation of IT and organization-wide projects. This role involves leading improvements across business processes, applications, and staff teams, with projects ranging from application selection to large-scale operational changes. The position aims to strengthen organizational culture by investing in people and systems, enhancing the employee experience, and fostering a culture of trust and accountability. The IT Project Manager works closely with the IT Director and Associate Director to manage the IT project portfolio, ensuring alignment with the organization's strategic direction and resource availability.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the United Way IT Project Portfolio by building relationships with internal business leaders and evaluating project resource capacity.
  • Contribute to annual planning, especially regarding IT project commitments for the coming year.
  • Manage the IT project request process, ensuring clear communication for staff to request projects and stay informed of their status.
  • Apply current project management best practices (e.g., PMI, Agile, Waterfall) to ensure quality and effectiveness.
  • Provide tactical and team leadership throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Strategize and execute change management initiatives.
  • Analyze people, process, and technology aspects of the business; provide option analysis and decision-making frameworks.
  • Stay informed of current and future business technologies; conduct cost/benefit analysis and evaluate software solutions.
  • Acquire goods and services through a fair bidding process, negotiate contracts, and manage vendors to optimize outcomes.
  • Plan projects, developing guiding artifacts such as project charters, business requirements, and detailed project plans.
  • Monitor and track project progress, identifying risks and issues to minimize impact on delivery.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with project team members, stakeholders, and vendors, ensuring effective communication.
  • Create user acceptance testing plans and manage the testing process during project execution.
  • Facilitate training curriculum design resulting from application implementation and business process changes.
  • Evaluate and measure project performance, executing project closure and transitioning to regular operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, data/project management, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in project management or systems management.
  • Proven experience in formal project management and change management methodologies (PMI, Agile, Waterfall).
  • Demonstrated ability to perform business systems analysis.
  • Intermediate knowledge of organization processes, information systems, and software applications.
  • Proven collaboration and relationship-building skills.
  • Adept in oral and written communication techniques.
  • Fluent in decision and concept framing techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform basic data analysis and reporting.

Nice-to-haves

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus.
  • Business analysis background is highly desirable.
