About the position

The IT Project Manager at the University of Kansas is responsible for leading and managing multiple IT projects, ensuring their successful delivery within defined scope, quality, time, and cost constraints. This role involves project planning, organization, coordination, and communication, while providing leadership to project teams throughout the project lifecycle. The position requires maintaining confidentiality and integrity, along with excellent time management skills, to deliver strategic projects effectively in a team-focused environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide project management for medium to large scale technical projects, including leading technology initiatives through all phases of the project management lifecycle.
  • Develop project charters, plans, and schedules, while identifying and monitoring issues and risks.
  • Provide leadership and motivation to project team members throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure project goals align with business objectives and university strategic goals.
  • Organize, coordinate, and lead the project team, scheduling meetings and ensuring access to up-to-date documentation.
  • Use project management tools to track project performance and schedule adherence.
  • Report project status to key stakeholders, including project sponsors and leadership.
  • Identify opportunities for automation and process improvement to enhance service delivery.
  • Document processes and procedures, working with training and communications teams to facilitate development and implementation of training plans.
  • Implement change management strategies to ensure end-user adoption and successful implementation.
  • Complete project information needs required by KITO, including risk assessments and compliance documentation.
  • Provide project management consultation to other project managers at KU, developing templates and resources to standardize processes.
  • Attend meetings, serve on committees, and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED and five (5) years of relevant experience OR an Associate degree and three (3) years of relevant experience OR Bachelor's degree and one (1) year of relevant experience.
  • One (1) year experience using Microsoft Productivity applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Visio, Project, Teams, SharePoint, Planner).
  • Formal training or certification in project management.
  • Experience utilizing superior written communication at all levels of the organization.
  • Knowledge of and experience in managing Agile and Waterfall projects.

Nice-to-haves

  • Three (3) years of demonstrated experience in IT project management.
  • Three (3) years of experience with project, program, and/or portfolio management methodologies and/or software.
  • One (1) year experience creating communications and presentations for negotiation and consensus building.
  • Superior oral communications skills as demonstrated by interview process.
  • One (1) year experience working in higher education.
  • Professional Project Management certification, such as PMP, CAPM, CSM.
