About the position

The IT Project Manager at Charles Schwab is responsible for leading enterprise-wide, cross-functional strategic initiatives within the Schwab Technology Services (STS) Portfolio & Project Management (PPM) organization. This role involves managing a variety of projects, including product launches, application development, systems integration, and operational improvements, ensuring that technology work aligns with business priorities and delivers quantifiable benefits.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for planning, orchestrating, and delivering strategic initiatives including business, operational, and IT deliverables.
  • Ensures end results are of the highest caliber with a clearly articulated scope and quantifiable business benefit.
  • Manages medium to large-scale projects often involving multiple internal and external constituents and partners.
  • Directly manages all aspects of the project life cycle and oversees all phases of a project.
  • Rigorously manages scope to ensure commitments are achieved within agreed-upon time, cost, and quality parameters.
  • Validates financial forecasts, cost assumptions, and provides ongoing reconciliation of resources and other related project expenditures.
  • Works with resource managers to ensure that resource capacity planning is accurately forecasted and reconciled against actual time spent.
  • Defines and tracks project milestones while developing, maintaining, and reporting on an overall integrated delivery plan.
  • Handles risks and issues management for project-level risks and interdependencies.
  • Partners with Product Owners and Scrum Masters to track Agile development milestones and support Agile practices as needed.
  • Manages team relationships to ensure effective delivery.
  • Facilitates problem-solving and resolves stakeholder conflict.
  • Teaches, coaches, and mentors team members to remove roadblocks and drive project execution.

Requirements

  • 5-8 years of project management experience, managing multiple medium to large, complex and cross-functional projects, with emphasis on product development, systems, and technical environments.
  • 5-8 years of experience with project management tools and artifacts, including MS Project, Jira, Confluence, SharePoint, project budgets, change requests, status reports, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to mobilize and motivate teams, set direction and approach, resolve conflict, deliver tough messages with grace.
  • Proven ability to quickly build relationships and earn the trust of sponsors and key stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated, applied experience establishing and delivering complex projects.
  • BA/BS Degree or equivalent experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Background/experience in financial services industry.
  • Experience with and understanding of various software development methodologies, including Agile/Scrum.
  • PMP or PMI-ACP certification.
