About the position

The IT Project Manager for the City of Hampton will lead diverse projects within the Information Technology department, focusing on the adoption of emerging technologies and ensuring alignment with the City's business objectives. This role involves overseeing the entire project lifecycle, from initiation to deployment, while managing schedules, budgets, and risks. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders and the ability to build and lead a high-performing project team.

Responsibilities

  • Establish project goals and develop comprehensive plans to meet established goals and objectives while ensuring technical feasibility.
  • Implement IT strategies that deliver projects within proposed timeline and budget.
  • Collaborate with department leaders, users, vendors, and IT managers to evaluate new technologies and develop requirements for new solutions and revisions to existing ones.
  • Perform risk management and analysis to minimize risks.
  • Coordinate assignments for project team members and develop schedules and individual responsibilities.
  • Set deadlines, assign responsibilities, monitor and summarize the progress of projects.
  • Leverage project management tools to track project performance and schedule adherence.
  • Coordinate internal and external resources for the execution of projects.
  • Manage the relationship with clients and relevant stakeholders, providing day-to-day contact on project status and changes.
  • Organize meetings to discuss project goals and progress.
  • Prepare and present status reports for upper management.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation including timeframes, budget estimates, and various reports.
  • May assign and review the work of others and participate in hiring, performance feedback, mentoring, and training.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Liberal Arts, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of full-time equivalent experience in project management, preferably in a municipal environment.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred.
