About the position

The IT Research Computing Analyst position at North Carolina State University is a vital role within the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Information Technology support domain. This position is responsible for delivering comprehensive IT solutions to the 18 Agricultural Research Stations across North Carolina, in collaboration with the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. The Analyst will engage in various tasks including the installation, maintenance, and repair of technology systems, ensuring that all operations adhere to safety regulations and best practices. The role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to improving customer service and operational performance. In this position, the Analyst will define requirements and conduct research to identify suitable technical solutions. This includes developing supporting documentation such as requirements, process maps, and test plans, while leading communication with functional partners and stakeholders. The Analyst will collaborate with various units to ensure a stable and scalable technology infrastructure, and will be responsible for recommending and procuring both proven and emerging agricultural technologies. Project management skills are essential, as the Analyst will lead project planning and implementation activities, deliver progress reports, and track project milestones against budgetary guidelines. The IT Research Computing Analyst will also contribute to the continuous improvement of IT research support by providing input on architecture and maintenance strategies, guiding telecommunications design decisions, and supporting the ongoing development of the IT strategic plan. The role involves operational support tasks such as installing and maintaining RF radio hardware and fiber optic cabling, troubleshooting complex issues, and documenting standard operating procedures. The Analyst will work independently on mid-size projects and will be expected to maintain a current knowledge of rapidly changing technology to effectively support the organization’s goals.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and repair technology systems in a predefined support region.
  • Define requirements and conduct research to identify available technical solutions.
  • Develop supporting documentation including requirements, process maps, and test plans.
  • Collaborate with network, storage, applications, telecommunications, and associated units to provide stable technology infrastructure.
  • Research and develop recommendations for the procurement of agricultural technology.
  • Lead project planning and implementation activities for technical solutions design and integration.
  • Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, and presentations to stakeholders.
  • Act as a trusted advisor on technology integration strategies.
  • Create working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and vendors.
  • Track and report progress against project milestones and budgetary guidelines.
  • Encourage and implement ideas to improve customer service and operational performance.
  • Install and maintain RF radio hardware and fiber optic cabling.
  • Support and troubleshoot high complexity issues and assist team members with lower complexity issues.
  • Document internal standard operating procedures for troubleshooting incidents and requests.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Computer Information Technology, computer technology integration, networking technology, or related area.
  • Two years of experience in the information technology field related to the position's role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Intermediate knowledge of IP Networking, VPN, firewall, L2 switching, and L3 routing principles.
  • Experience with various WLAN topologies and VOIP systems design.
  • Knowledge of state and federal safety regulations and Information Security Policies and Standards.
  • Project management skills and technology procurement experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Working knowledge of Google Applications.
  • Experience with ITSM Incident Management System (ServiceNow preferred).
  • Certifications such as ITIL, A+, OSX Support Essentials, Linux, Dell, Microsoft Certified Professional, CCNA, or equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge of BGP, OSPF Routing, and virtualization experience (VMWare, Citrix, etc.).
  • Experience with network storage systems support and GIS Planning and Design.

Benefits

  • Commensurate salary based on experience ($65,000 - $70,000).
  • Full-time employment with a standard work schedule of Monday-Friday, 8AM-5PM.
