About the position

The IT Research Computing Analyst position at North Carolina State University is a full-time role within the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Information Technology support domain. This position is responsible for delivering comprehensive IT solutions to the 18 Agricultural Research Stations across North Carolina, in collaboration with the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. The Analyst will be tasked with installing, maintaining, and repairing technology systems, ensuring that all operations adhere to safety regulations and best practices. In this role, the Analyst will engage in solutions development by defining requirements and conducting research to identify suitable technical solutions. This includes developing supporting documentation such as requirements, process maps, and test plans, while also leading communication with functional partners and stakeholders. The Analyst will collaborate with various units to provide a stable and scalable technology infrastructure, and will be responsible for researching and recommending technology solutions that meet business needs. Project management is a key component of this position, where the Analyst will lead project planning and implementation activities, develop progress reports, and serve as a trusted advisor on technology integration strategies. The Analyst will also contribute to the continuous improvement of IT research support, providing input on architecture and maintenance strategies, and supporting operational tasks such as installing RF radio hardware and fiber optic cabling. The role requires a proactive approach to customer service and operational performance, with an emphasis on troubleshooting and documentation of standard operating procedures. Overall, the IT Research Computing Analyst will play a crucial role in enhancing the technological capabilities of agricultural research initiatives, ensuring that the IT infrastructure is robust, efficient, and aligned with the strategic goals of NC State University and its partners.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and repair technology systems for agricultural research stations.
  • Define requirements and conduct research to identify available technical solutions.
  • Develop supporting documentation including requirements, process maps, and test plans.
  • Collaborate with network, storage, applications, and telecommunications units to provide stable technology infrastructure.
  • Research and recommend technology solutions to meet business requirements.
  • Lead project planning and implementation activities for technical solutions design and integration.
  • Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, and presentations to stakeholders.
  • Track and report progress against milestones and budgetary guidelines.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of IT research support with proactive suggestions and documentation.
  • Install and maintain RF radio hardware and fiber optic cabling.
  • Troubleshoot high complexity issues and assist team members with lower complexity issues.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Computer Information Technology, networking technology, or related area.
  • Two years of experience in the information technology field related to the position's role.
  • Intermediate knowledge of IP Networking, VPN, firewall, L2 switching, and L3 routing principles.
  • Experience with Microsoft Active Directory and SCCM support.
  • Basic understanding of software-defined networking concepts.
  • Familiarity with storage systems integration and IoT solutions.
  • Project management skills and technology procurement experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Working knowledge of Google Applications and ITSM Incident Management System (ServiceNow).
  • Certifications such as ITIL, A+, OSX Support Essentials, Linux, Dell, Microsoft Certified Professional, CCNA, or equivalent.
  • Virtualization experience (VMWare, Citrix, etc.).
  • Experience with GIS Planning and Design.
  • Knowledge of various WLAN topologies and VOIP systems design.
