About the position

The IT Security Analyst at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga is responsible for managing and enhancing the campus IT Security Program. This role involves conducting risk assessments, developing information security plans, and ensuring compliance with university policies and applicable laws. The analyst will also coordinate investigations of security incidents and contribute to business continuity and disaster recovery efforts, while fostering a culture of security awareness across the campus community.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the implementation, documentation, and maintenance of UTC's Campus IT Security Program
  • Builds relationships with the campus community to achieve information security program objectives
  • Contributes to the development of IT Security standards and procedures
  • Advises and assists the Associate CIO on operational, technical, and training issues
  • Works closely with partners across the UT System to align processes with UT policy
  • Attends monthly IT Security Advisory Team meetings and department meetings
  • Maintains a professional demeanor and personal development plan
  • Performs special projects and other duties as assigned
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of data identification and secure access initiatives
  • Ensures compliance with existing information security policies and recognized standards
  • Develops and maintains Security Information Event Monitoring (SIEM) systems
  • Performs vendor security assessments and monitors third-party vendors
  • Collaborates with other Security Analysts on critical threats
  • Monitors Endpoint Security and implements alerts
  • Performs cyclic scans for regulatory compliance
  • Conducts periodic vulnerability assessments on regulated networks
  • Ensures the IT Security website is up-to-date
  • Records and forwards significant information security incidents
  • Collaborates with the IT Information Security Advisory Team and Security Incident Response Team
  • Develops and maintains a campus-wide information security awareness program
  • Prepares and delivers information security training and awareness activities
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of existing training programs
  • Creates a metrics framework to measure engagement and impact
  • Coordinates with external vendors for training materials and implementation

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
  • Two years of experience in IT security or related field
  • Demonstrated knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks such as NIST CSF and CIS Controls
  • Strong understanding of incident response and log analysis
  • Proven ability to analyze needs and solve problems creatively

Nice-to-haves

  • Relevant certifications such as CISSP, Security +, GIAC Security Essentials
