About the position

The IT Security & Compliance Architect at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Dentistry is responsible for developing, managing, and implementing processes to ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations regarding electronic Protected Health Information (ePHI). This role involves evaluating existing IT policies, conducting risk assessments, and collaborating with various teams to enhance the organization's security posture and compliance efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate existing policies and procedures for HIPAA compliance through risk assessments of IT systems.
  • Develop and implement disaster recovery and security policies within the School of Dentistry.
  • Assess methods for storing and transmitting ePHI, identifying compliance risks and recommending improvements.
  • Perform regular audits and reviews of IT systems to assess security measures and compliance efforts.
  • Develop and maintain incident response plans for security breaches.
  • Collaborate with the Network Services Team to configure IoT devices and manage PCI compliance audits.
  • Design and implement secure IT architectures to protect systems and data from cyber threats.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities within the IT infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align security and compliance efforts with organizational goals.
  • Assist with compliance management to ensure adherence to industry standards and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent training and experience.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Active Directory, Citrix, VMWare, and cloud computing.
  • Experience with server management (Windows, Linux, etc.).
  • Familiarity with change control and change management practices.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Superior interpersonal and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
  • Experience in Higher Education or Healthcare environments.
  • Commitment to fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Relevant experience in a university academic or healthcare environment.
  • Knowledge of University systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of VCU Information Security Baselines and computer standards.
  • CISA, CISSP, Security+ or other comparable qualifications.
