About the position

The IT Security & Compliance Specialist II is a temporary role focused on ensuring the security of IT systems and compliance with data security policies. The position involves identifying, analyzing, and mitigating threats to internal IT systems and networks, monitoring for unauthorized activities, and responding to urgent situations to protect the infrastructure. The specialist will also perform assessments of systems and networks, evaluate security products, and ensure vendor compliance with security regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the security of IT systems and compliance with data security policies.
  • Identify, analyze, and mitigate threats to internal IT systems and networks.
  • Monitor the network to remediate unauthorized activities.
  • Respond to crises or urgent situations to mitigate immediate and potential threats.
  • Perform assessments of systems and networks to identify deviations from acceptable configurations and regulations.
  • Evaluate and recommend security products, services, and procedures.
  • Document data sharing requests for cybersecurity and ensure vendor compliance with the NC Security Manual.
  • Monitor security tools and investigate events for risks to data and systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related IT field and two years of progressive experience in IT Security; or an Associate degree in computer science or a related IT field and three years of progressive experience in IT security; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in incident handling methodologies.
  • Experience in detection, identification, and alerting of possible attacks.
  • Knowledge of the IT security industry and relevant federal and state regulations.
