About the position

The IT Security Engineer will collaborate closely with our Lead Security Engineer to assess and mitigate risks within our environment. This role involves ensuring that security compliance requirements and standards are met, following the industry's best practices to optimize our security posture, and developing and delivering cybersecurity training and awareness. The ideal candidate will possess a deep passion for understanding how threat actors exploit their targets, identifying the relevance of those threats to Indiana State University, and driving proactive risk mitigation efforts to protect and secure our data and assets.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and mitigate risks in our environment
  • Ensure security compliance requirements and security standards are being met
  • Security Operation Center and IR monitoring and response assistance
  • Optimize our security posture
  • Develop and deliver cybersecurity training and awareness
  • Collaboration with Office of Information Technology leaders and support teams such as infrastructure, applications, asset management, software and hardware management, and end user support teams
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Associate degree in a relative technical field and 3 years' experience working in a role dedicated specifically to one or more subjects from the preferred experience list
  • OR Bachelor's degree in a relative technical field and 1 year of experience working in a role dedicated specifically to one or more subjects from the preferred experience list
  • OR Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity
  • Required Field(s) of Study: Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Engineering Technology, Computer Science, or other security relevant technical studies

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Security, Engineering, or Information Technology
  • 3 years' experience working with day-to-day administration of enterprise class security systems and infrastructure
  • Professional Cybersecurity or Information Security Certification(s)

Benefits

  • Life Insurance: The coverage amount is based on two and one-half times appointment salary rounded up to the next whole thousand with a maximum coverage of $100,000 and includes the same amount of Accidental Death and Dismemberment benefits.
