About the position

The IT Security Specialist / IT Security Architect role is a contract position focused on providing security architecture services to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) Privacy and Security Office (PSO). The specialist will assess and enhance the security of the Child Welfare Information System (CWIS) by applying strong security principles and practices, including risk management and vulnerability assessment.

Responsibilities

• Assist and assess the CWIS for security vulnerabilities and compliance.
• Identify gaps through risk management and develop mitigation strategies.
• Document vulnerability assessment results clearly and accurately for appropriate personnel.
• Implement security controls to meet regulatory compliance requirements such as HIPAA and PCI DSS.
• Utilize containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes for secure deployments.
• Apply secure coding practices and threat modeling in development processes.
• Use Copado for Salesforce deployment automation and release management.
• Leverage GitHub Actions for CI/CD pipelines and security features.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in IT security or related field.
• Strong understanding of security principles, including secure coding practices and vulnerability management.
• Experience with containerization technologies (Docker) and orchestration tools (Kubernetes, preferably Redhat OpenShift).
• Expertise in using Copado for Salesforce deployment automation and release management.
• Knowledge of common security frameworks such as OWASP Top 10 and CIS Benchmarks.
• Experience with GitHub Actions for CI/CD pipelines and GitHub Security features.
• Understanding of regulatory compliance requirements (e.g., HIPAA, PCI DSS).
• Hands-on experience with network security design and configuration.

Nice-to-haves

• Familiarity with DevSecOps concepts such as static code analysis and container hardening.
• Knowledge of the OSI networking model.
