About the position

This senior position will report into a Director of Software Engineering, Operational Applications within Talcott Resolution, working closely with our technology employees, vendor partners and business partners to ensure that the design and development of businesses solutions and automation needs are delivered in a quality and timely fashion. This position requires an individual with strong software development, leadership, and communication skills along with detailed knowledge and experience within the Repetitive Payment System (RPS). This role will work on varying organizational and system initiatives that include assessing, designing, and developing solutions for both application and strategic roadmap efforts. This is an opportunity for an individual who has in-depth experience with the Repetitive Payment system (RPS), a passion for understanding business problems, developing creative solutions on business-critical systems, and driving strategic efforts for the enterprise. The successful individual will be able to lead and collaborate with business and technical teams, develop strategies/solutions, and deliver on project milestones. Talcott Resolution's Operational Applications IT environment consists primarily of the following platforms and technologies: * Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (PLSQL, Java, Windows, Linux, etc…) * Kyndryl zCloud zOS Mainframe (formerly IBM) * Microsoft Azure (Windows, SQL Server, O365, etc…) * Multiple programming languages across mid-tier and mainframe technology Talcott's infrastructural environment is a true Hybrid Cloud platform, leveraging a datacenter colocation cage for our core along with multiple cloud and SaaS providers.

Responsibilities

  • Apply knowledge of RPS to drive efficiency into support, maintenance, and execution, with a focus on Talcott's highly customized RPS application.
  • Lead and participate on assignments and projects, clarifying business requirements, writing technical specifications, performing application development and modification activities.
  • Lead and/or participate in planning sessions with business stakeholders, business analysts, and team members to analyze business requirements.
  • Manage own tasks within assignments around production support and maintenance plan(s).
  • Develop or modify software application modules using disciplined software development processes.
  • Apply quality assurance principles and processes, ensuring the development product meets the need and requirements of the business.
  • Testing of application modules that have been developed or modified.
  • Provide ongoing maintenance of applications or tools as required.
  • Provide production support as needed when contacted by teammates or other support teams.
  • Handle/resolve production support issues within area of expertise.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology or a related discipline from an accredited college or university, or equivalent work experience.
  • Over 10 years of experience in mainframe application development, with demonstrated leadership acumen in managing and guiding mainframe development teams.
  • Proficiency in mainframe programming languages such as COBOL, CICS and JCL. Familiarity with the software development life cycle (SDLC) and experience with debugging, testing, and maintaining mainframe applications.
  • Experience with individual annuities or wealth management business is required.
  • Experience with the Repetitive Payment System (RPS) is required.
  • Experience in Talcott's mainframe application landscape, specifically within the highly customized RPS product, would be a differentiator.
  • Demonstrated experience with software development, testing, and quality assurance methodologies.
  • Experience in supporting the implementation and integration of vendor systems and packages is a plus.
  • Visible passion for learning and applying technology along with the ability to readily share knowledge.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a requirement. Must be able to communicate with business users in non-technical terms and communicate the impacts of system changes to business partners.
  • Analytical approach with a strong ability to uncover/resolve problems and deliver innovative approaches/solutions.
  • Ability to set and manage own priorities effectively in a dynamic organization while providing reliable estimates for project tasks and delivery upon committed dates.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop effective relationships with peers and work as part of a high performing and aggressive team.
  • Effective listener, who can give timely and constructive feedback. Is willing to state opinions assertively and effectively manage conflict.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. The ability to work collaboratively with various departments and manage complex projects is also essential.
