About the position

The IT Senior Technician at Bernalillo County plays a crucial role in the Customer Solutions and Services (CSS) division, providing essential technical support across various technology functional areas. This position involves troubleshooting and resolving system and application-related support requests, ensuring the maintenance and administration of computer hardware and software systems to meet the business needs of the county. As a first or second-level responder, the Senior IT Technician is responsible for setting up, maintaining, and monitoring a variety of information systems, including networks, peripherals, operating systems, and user applications. The role requires planning, implementing, and monitoring hardware and software upgrades, patches, security measures, and backup/recovery processes. Additionally, the technician will install, configure, and administer various commercial and internal applications, while also performing other related duties as assigned. The responsibilities of the IT Senior Technician include conducting assessments of IT problems, whether on-site or remotely, and investigating, troubleshooting, evaluating, and resolving a variety of routine issues related to computer hardware, software, telecommunications, and peripheral equipment. The technician will also perform routine information system security duties, ensuring that updates and patches are applied and that network and data security standards are implemented in accordance with relevant policies. Coordination with other IT divisions is essential for the successful implementation and monitoring of upgrades and security processes, as well as for obtaining new and upgraded system hardware and software packages. In addition to technical duties, the IT Senior Technician will engage in system quality assurance activities, testing and troubleshooting system issues, and executing testing plans to validate functionality. The role also involves the installation, operation, and maintenance of computers and peripheral equipment, monitoring system parameters, and performing basic maintenance and repairs. Training users on routine technical processes and providing information on system and application functions are also key aspects of this position. The technician will maintain communication with management regarding existing or potential production problems and assist in developing long-term strategies for meeting future hardware needs. The role may require after-hours technology support and coordination with third-party support and PC equipment vendors to resolve technical problems.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct assessments of IT problems on-site or remotely, troubleshooting and resolving a variety of routine computer hardware, software, telecommunications, and peripheral equipment issues.
  • Perform routine information system security duties, including updates and patches, and implement network and data security standards.
  • Coordinate with other IT divisions to implement and monitor hardware and software upgrades, patches, security, and backup/recovery processes.
  • Perform system quality assurance activities, testing and troubleshooting system issues, and executing testing plans to validate functionality.
  • Install, operate, and maintain computers and peripheral equipment, monitoring routine system parameters and performing basic maintenance and repairs.
  • Perform OS and software installations, routine system backups, upgrades, and other hardware/software support activities.
  • Train audio-visual and desktop users on routine technical processes and provide information on basic system and application functions.
  • Inform management of existing or potential production problems and maintain problem logs.
  • Assist in developing long-term strategies and capacity planning for future hardware needs.
  • Coordinate with third-party support and PC equipment vendors to resolve technical problems with desktop computing equipment and software.
  • Stay updated on new developments in computing technologies and analyze reviews.
  • Update and maintain the computer inventory and equipment.
  • Provide guidance and training to team members and lower-level staff.
  • Provide after-hours technology support as assigned.
  • Perform other job-related duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Two (2) years of work experience as a first or second responder performing set-ups, maintenance, or monitoring of an information system including network, operating systems, and user applications.
  • Valid New Mexico driver's license by employment date and maintain a valid NM driver's license while employed in this position.
