About the position

The IT Solutions Architect - Cloud Engineer at Creighton University is responsible for defining and maintaining the university's Cloud Roadmap and Architecture. This senior technical role involves designing and implementing cloud architecture solutions that prioritize scalability, security, and cost-effectiveness. The position also includes leadership responsibilities, mentoring Technical Leads, and ensuring compliance with university policies and regulations while fostering an inclusive work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Define and maintain the University's Cloud Roadmap and Architecture.
  • Design and implement cloud architecture solutions focusing on scalability, security, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Lead, coach, and mentor Technical Leads in cloud architecture and engineering.
  • Manage and maintain cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Azure) including provisioning, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
  • Implement and enforce cloud security best practices and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform.
  • Monitor and optimize cloud spending, providing recommendations for cost-saving measures.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for cloud architecture and processes.
  • Provide guidance and support to IT staff and university departments on cloud-related issues.
  • Design and implement disaster recovery plans for cloud-based systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or related area; Master's degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in cloud architecture and engineering.
  • In-depth knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud.
  • Experience with cloud migration projects and hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding of networking, security, and identity management in a cloud environment.
  • Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform.
  • Experience with containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with hybrid cloud environments and integrating on-premises systems with cloud platforms.
  • Experience with Platform as a Service (PaaS).
  • Experience with Serverless computing such as AWS Lambda and Microsoft Azure Functions.
  • Proficiency in writing Python scripts to automate cloud integrations and operational tasks.
  • Understanding of cloud resource tagging, monitoring, and optimization through automation.
  • Ability to work with JSON, YAML, and other data formats commonly used in cloud configurations.
  • Familiarity with tools like Github, GitLab CI, or Azure DevOps for continuous integration and deployment.
  • Experience with Azure API Management for designing, deploying, and managing APIs in Azure.
  • Knowledge of virtual networks (VNets), subnets, and network security groups (NSGs).
