About the position

This position is located in the Office of Information Technology (OIT), Office of the Managing Director, Federal Maritime Commission (FMC or Commission). The OIT is responsible for the provision of agency-wide user support functions for all computer systems and other necessary Information Technology (IT)-related services provided to the FMC. Responsibilities

  • Develop and enhance custom applications including new features on various platforms such as low code/no code (i.e. ServiceNow), .Net, SharePoint, WordPress, PHP, PowerBI, and Azure to include analysis and definition of customer requirements and specifications.
  • Apply interrelationships of multiple IT specialties, IT architecture, new IT developments and applications, emerging technologies and their application to FMC business processes, project management principles, methods, and practices.
  • Provide product support to address performance issues, bugs, and defects in new and legacy applications which may result in updates to the back end or code changes.
  • Manage migrations to newer versions of SQL Server when deemed appropriate for all database applications.
  • Define milestones and deliverables, monitor activities, and evaluate and report on accomplishments; and oral and written communication techniques.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • A 1-year probationary period is required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a background investigation.
  • Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency.
  • If you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System or are exempt from having to do so.
  • Have your salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.
  • FMC participates in E-Verify.
  • Go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I-9.
  • May be required to obtain and use a government-issued charge card for business-related travel.
  • May be required to file a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report within 30 days of appointment and annually from then on.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with application programming interfaces (API), data warehouse, and other commercial-off-the-shelf (COT) products.
  • Experience analyzing and planning for anticipated changes in application capacity requirements.
  • Experience ensuring customer and management involvement throughout the software development process.
