About the position

The IT Specialist (Database Manager) at the Peace Corps is responsible for managing healthcare databases and analyzing health surveillance data to support the medical clearance and health services for Peace Corps Volunteers. This role involves monitoring data accuracy, performing data management functions, and training staff on technical procedures. The position aims to enhance the quality of data entry and reporting methods to improve healthcare outcomes for Volunteers.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor current and accurate information in healthcare databases.
  • Review Epidemiologic and Health Surveillance data.
  • Analyze and evaluate operating practices and recommend new reporting methods.
  • Perform data management and data mining functions by defining data requirements and specifications.
  • Conduct quality control to ensure accurate data usage.
  • Utilize software packages to track trends in program activities and outcomes.
  • Train staff on technical procedures or software usage.
  • Research and resolve problems involving health care data.
  • Develop plans for implementing program goals.
  • Analyze clinical data using appropriate statistical tools.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the FP-05 or GS-09 level in database management and public health programs.
  • Knowledge of database management concepts and methods.
  • Good working knowledge of database management systems and query languages.
  • Experience in data surveillance functions and data mining.
