About the position

This position is located in the National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS), Assistant Chief Information Officer (ACIO), with one vacancy in Silver Spring, MD. The government wide direct hire authority for IT Specialist (INFOSEC), ZP-2210 is being used to fill this position.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a Security Architect responsible for security requirements necessary to protect core mission and business processes.
  • Serve as a liaison between the enterprise architect, Information Systems Security Engineer (ISSE) and common control providers on the allocation of security controls as system-specific, hybrid or common.
  • Formulate and carry out research or policy analysis in science, engineering, calibration, economics, statistics and promote wide application program results through publications, presentations, or authoritative reports or analyses.
  • Develop various programs, projects, documentation, plans and results.
  • Maintain program files and keep abreast of latest developments in hardware and software security and approved Information Technology (IT) security tools.
  • Advise management officials on security boundaries, assess severity of weakness and deficiencies, risk mitigation approaches and the potential adverse effects of vulnerabilities.
  • Development, reporting, and closure of Plans and Actions Milestones to remediate identified system deficiencies.
  • Provide advice and guidance concerning information assurance and security.
  • Apply in-depth knowledge of the principles, methods and techniques of IT project planning, management, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Carry out work in Project Management, Requirements Analysis, Risk Management, System Integration, Systems Life Cycle, Technical Documentation, Technology Awareness, Telecommunications, and Vulnerability Assessments.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in coordinating data and information activities for cloud security development migration or dissemination.
  • Experience in establishing frameworks or agreements to ensure that data needed for product generation activities is available.
  • Experience in configuring and managing network services and software to identify network problems to ensure optical network performance.
  • Experience in leading Information Technology (IT) projects which may include requirements assessment, risk mitigation, quality assurance, implementation, testing, budget and evaluation.
