About the position

The IT Specialist (Infosec) position at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) focuses on the design and implementation of information security programs within the Office of Mission Support. The role involves conducting vulnerability assessments, developing training programs, and serving as a project officer for IT security initiatives. This is a full-time, office-centered position based in Durham, NC, requiring regular attendance at the duty station, although some work-from-home flexibility may be available after meeting eligibility requirements.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a Regional or Program Office expert on the design and implementation of information security programs.
• Conduct vulnerability assessments of existing network and system configurations to identify threats, risk, and mitigation needs.
• Develop and implement training and awareness programs related to IT security programs.
• Serve as Project Officer, Contracting Officer Representative (COR) or Contracting Officer's Technical Representative (COTR).

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• At least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in analyzing information systems compliance and IT security assignments.
• Bachelor's or higher degree in computer science, engineering, information science, or related fields, or IT-related experience demonstrating required competencies.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with federal information security laws and regulations.
• Knowledge of IT security protocols and methods.
