About the position

The IT Specialist (Infosec) position at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) involves serving as an expert in the design and implementation of information security programs. The role includes conducting vulnerability assessments, developing training programs, and managing contracts related to IT security. This position is critical for ensuring the security and integrity of the agency's information systems and requires a strong background in IT security protocols and compliance.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a Regional or Program Office expert on the design and implementation of information security programs.
• Conduct vulnerability assessments of existing network and system configurations to identify threats, risk, and mitigation needs.
• Develop and implement training and awareness programs related to IT security programs.
• Serve as Project Officer, Contracting Officer Representative (COR) or Contracting Officer's Technical Representative (COTR).
• Spend less than 25% of work time on contracts, grants/cooperative agreements, and/or interagency agreements.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship is required.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management.
• At least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in analyzing information systems compliance and performing IT security assignments.
• Knowledge of IT security protocols, policies, procedures, and methods.
• Ability to develop and implement IT security training and education programs.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with vulnerability assessment tools and methodologies.
• Familiarity with federal information security laws and regulations.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
