About the position

The IT Specialist (Network Services/Customer Support) position at the Department of the Air Force is primarily responsible for providing base-level assistance in the operation and maintenance of the installation's computer network. This role involves offering technical assistance, training, and support to customers, ensuring the stability and functionality of network services.

Responsibilities

  • Administer the base local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN) for the installation.
  • Plan, test, and configure base network systems.
  • Analyze and resolve network problems and trends.
  • Provide customer support, assistance, training, and orientation.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret clearance.
  • Experience in IT-related roles demonstrating competencies in Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving.
  • One year of specialized experience at the GS-07 level or equivalent, including applying LAN/WAN principles and practices to troubleshoot and maintain communication lines and equipment.
  • Education: Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree in relevant fields or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of basic LAN/WAN and system principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of customer support principles, methods, and procedures for documenting problem resolutions.
  • Ability to analyze routine network problems and recommend solutions.
