About the position

The IT Specialist (SysAdmin) position at the US Geological Survey involves serving as a subject matter expert for IT networks within the Volcano Science Center. The role includes developing and executing test plans for IT networks, providing guidance on IT change requests, and ensuring compliance with network requirements and policies. This position is critical for maintaining the integrity and security of IT systems in both office and field environments.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a subject matter expert for IT networks.
• Develop and execute detailed test plans for IT networks in the office and field.
• Provide guidance on the preparation of IT change requests.
• Author configuration management submissions.
• Design, administer, monitor, and secure networks.
• Develop and provide compliance oversight for IT networks and systems requirements.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship is required.
• Valid state driver's license and safe driving record.
• 1 year of IT-related experience demonstrating competencies in attention to detail, customer service, oral communication, and problem solving.
• Specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with information systems analysis, design, testing, and implementation.
• Knowledge of integration of new applications with existing information systems.
