About the position

The IT Specialist (SysAdmin) position at the U.S. Geological Survey involves serving as a subject matter expert for IT networks within the Volcano Science Center. The role includes developing and executing test plans, providing guidance on IT change requests, and ensuring compliance with network requirements and policies. This position is critical for maintaining the integrity and security of IT systems in both office and field environments.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for IT Networks.
  • Develop and execute detailed test plans for IT networks in the office and in the field.
  • Provide guidance on the preparation of IT change requests and author configuration management submissions.
  • Design, administer, monitor, and secure networks.
  • Develop and provide compliance oversight for implementation of network and systems requirements, policies, guidelines, and practices.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Suitable for Federal employment, as determined by background investigation.
  • Possess a valid state driver's license and safe driving record.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with information systems analysis, design, testing, and implementation.
  • Knowledge of integration of new applications with existing information systems.
  • Ability to maintain data integrity and translate strategic planning objectives into tactical process plans.
