About the position

The University of Iowa's Health Care department of Health Care Information Systems is seeking an IT Support Analyst to play a crucial role in managing and tracking the inventory of computer and network electronics from their arrival to disposal. This position is essential for ensuring that the inventory is accurately maintained and that all equipment is properly handled throughout its lifecycle. The IT Support Analyst will be responsible for processing the receipt and distribution of new hardware, evaluating existing hardware for potential reallocation or disposal, and installing necessary software on new equipment to prepare it for distribution. Additionally, the analyst will assist in maintaining a supply of computer parts for reallocation within various departments of the University of Iowa Health Care. The role involves a variety of responsibilities, including ensuring the proper disposal of hardware, which may involve media erasure or destruction, and maintaining detailed inventory records for both surplus and new computer equipment. The IT Support Analyst will also be tasked with cleaning computer hard drives prior to reallocation, removing usable parts from equipment, and replacing computer parts as necessary to enable equipment to be redeployed effectively. This position requires collaboration with other unit staff to develop and implement project plans, as well as providing input to management regarding technical education and support activities for unit staff. In addition to these responsibilities, the IT Support Analyst will participate in the interviewing and evaluation of candidates for unit staff vacancies, assist in monitoring or analyzing performance data, and support the implementation of approved projects. The position is primarily located at the Main Campus of the University of Iowa, and the analyst will be expected to take self-study and vendor-sponsored classes related to technical systems software and hardware as needed. This role is vital for supporting the information and communication systems that facilitate quality patient care, medical education, and innovative research within the University of Iowa Health Care system.

Responsibilities

  • Processes receipt and inventory of new hardware.
  • Ensures proper disposal of hardware including media erasure or destruction and inventory management.
  • Cleans computer hard drives prior to machine reallocation, either for redeployment to another department or disposal by UI Surplus.
  • Removes usable parts (hard drives, memory).
  • Replaces computer parts as necessary to enable equipment to be redeployed.
  • Assists with maintaining a parts inventory for use by HCIS support staff or other departments.
  • Installs software programs on new computer equipment to prepare for distribution.
  • Processes surplus computer equipment records.
  • Performs advanced analysis and problem resolution with device hardware.
  • Develops detailed work plans and project schedules.
  • Provides input to management for unit staff technical education and other support activities as required.
  • Works with other unit staff in developing and implementing project plans.
  • Takes self-study and vendor-sponsored classes pertaining to technical systems software and hardware, as needed.
  • Trains unit staff in unit technical procedures.
  • Maintains inventory records for surplus and new computer equipment.
  • Assists in monitoring or analysis of performance data.
  • Assists with the implementation of approved projects, providing project support and services.
  • Participates with management in interviewing and evaluating candidates when vacancies in unit staff occur.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or an IT-related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience, typically 6 months to 1 year, in technology and/or business process analysis and solution design in a Technical Product Support or Customer Service Center including service recovery.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Microsoft 365, and a broad range of computer and network electronics.
  • Experience with inventory and asset management in a business environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to move and lift computer equipment.
  • A valid driver's license and ability to meet and maintain UI Fleet Safety Standards.
