About the position

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is seeking an intern for the Business Intelligence and Systems Internship within the Unit of Information and Technology Management (ITM) in New York. This internship offers a unique opportunity to support UNDP Country Offices globally by providing technology solutions that empower various projects. Interns will engage in a stimulating and versatile environment, working alongside a diverse team and gaining exposure to international partners from 166 countries. The internship is designed to enhance the academic experience of passionate students, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical industry experience. Interns will be involved in significant projects that contribute to the UNDP's mission of sustainable development and innovation. As part of the ITM unit, interns will have the chance to work on various tasks, including supporting online collaboration tools, developing applications using PowerApps, and analyzing data for project tracking and visualization. The internship will last for six months, from February 3, 2025, to July 31, 2025, and will provide interns with the opportunity to build worldwide connections with other talented interns and UN staff. The role emphasizes the importance of continuous learning, innovation, and a commitment to high-quality service delivery in line with the UNDP's strategic framework.

Responsibilities

  • Support online collaboration tools and business process automation solutions for UNDP Country Offices using Microsoft Office 365, Oracle Cloud ERP, Salesforce, and ServiceNow.
  • Assist in the development of applications using PowerApps to replace manual processes with cloud-based functions.
  • Help build applications that utilize PowerApps and Flow for mobile-enabled data entry, approvals, and reporting.
  • Support the collection, consolidation, and analysis of data for project tracking and data visualization using Excel, Power BI, and other business intelligence tools.
  • Contribute innovative perspectives to improve online reports and dashboards for internal and external use.
  • Assist in enhancing user interfaces of existing applications based on UI/UX best practices and user acceptance testing.
  • Support the continuous innovation of UNDP business procedures and disseminate best practices through the user community.
  • Participate in translating user requirements into user stories and support the development of quality software following international coding standards.
  • Research alternative tools for enhancing internal communications and tracking, such as chatbots in MS Teams and decision-making assistance tools.
  • Creatively support the development of new projects for innovative collaboration and business process automation systems.

Requirements

  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme or in the final academic year of a first university degree programme.
  • Have recently graduated with a university degree in IT Technician/Software Developer, Computer Science, Business Management, or related fields.
  • Experience or knowledge in IT Technician/Software Developer, Computer Science, or Business Management is required.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft cloud technologies (Office 365, SharePoint Online, Azure) and back-office platforms (Oracle ERP Cloud, Salesforce, ServiceNow).
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office productivity tools is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of specific Office 365 tools such as Planner, Teams, Yammer, OneDrive, and Power BI is a distinct advantage.
  • Understanding of DevOps and Continuous Integration is an advantage.
  • Good knowledge of Data Science principles and hands-on experience with SQL is an advantage.
  • Experience with relational databases and XML is highly desirable.
  • Ability to use business intelligence tools for data analysis and reporting is an advantage.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English; knowledge of other UN languages is an advantage.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of HTML5, CSS, graphic design, and web standards/best practices is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of Nintex Workflows, PowerShell, .NET platform, and/or C# programming is an advantage.
  • Interest in developing sustainable ICT solutions focusing on modern ICT innovations is an advantage.
  • Ability to translate IT technology to business users in non-technical language is an advantage.
  • Understanding of data management, including real-time data, data warehousing, and data cleansing is an advantage.
