About the position

The IT Support Specialist II (ITSS2) plays a crucial role in the Information Services Department by providing technical support for the County's IT resources. This position involves troubleshooting and resolving technology-related issues for County staff, ensuring the proper setup and maintenance of hardware, software applications, and data storage. The ITSS2 operates under general supervision and is responsible for a range of tasks including diagnosing problems, assisting users, and maintaining communication with various stakeholders. This role is essential and may require working during adverse weather conditions or when County offices are closed.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to customers for IT resources including hardware and software applications.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose technology-related issues for County staff via phone, remote access, or in person.
  • Install and configure computer hardware, applications, and peripheral equipment.
  • Perform minor repairs on printers and set up cellular devices.
  • Maintain written and oral communications with customers and technical support staff.
  • Document procedures for troubleshooting and maintaining IT-related software and equipment.
  • Assist users in determining hardware and software needs and provide guidance on usage.
  • Prepare price quotes for computer equipment and interface with vendors for procurement.
  • Reset passwords for users and various applications.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent training and experience.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in personal computer and computer systems support.
  • Possession of a valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver's license.
  • Desired certifications include A+, ITIL Foundation, Microsoft Technology Associate, and Networking Basics.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with ITIL Certification.
  • Experience in LAN support.
  • Mentorship experience for junior team members.
