About the position

The Information Systems Technician I position within the Technical Services division of the Office of the Illinois Secretary of State involves performing complex technical functions and administrative tasks related to the installation, evaluation, and maintenance of hardware and software for large-scale networks. The role requires effective communication with users and team members to resolve issues and ensure high-quality customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in resolving issues escalated from Tier 1 support staff, working directly with users for timely resolution.
  • Assist, support, and document the initiation, execution, and closing activities for program/project(s) and support activities.
  • Ensure performance metrics are met or exceeded.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining program support artifacts throughout the lifecycle of the initiative.
  • Maintain constant and proactive communication with customers, team members, and subcontractors to mitigate issues or concerns.
  • Simulate and recreate user issues to resolve operational difficulties.
  • Recommend system modifications to reduce user problems.
  • Escalate more complex issues to senior level technicians as appropriate.
  • Promote and encourage a one team attitude at all levels internally and externally.
  • Manage customer expectations and deliver the highest level of quality customer service.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

  • Knowledge equivalent to the completion of one year of college with computer science coursework or 1.5 years of technical systems and/or programming experience.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and push/pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Valid Illinois Driver's License.
