About the position

The IT Support Specialist-Lead at the City of Milwaukee serves as a primary resource in IT support, focusing on desktop and mobile device support, Systems Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), and server/email support. This role involves troubleshooting, training, and managing IT help desk operations while leading projects to ensure optimal performance and security of IT systems.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a lead resource in desktop and mobile devices support, SCCM, backup and recovery, or server and email support.
• Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve problems with user devices and system configurations.
• Develop training materials and train end-users on IT systems.
• Assist in managing and administering computer help desk operations, including the IT ticketing system.
• Lead daily operations of functional areas within the Information Services section.
• Evaluate proposed hardware and software purchases and configuration changes.
• Maintain inventory and warranty records for all hardware and software.
• Manage large IT projects and serve as a primary resource for project implementation.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems management, or a closely related field.
• Three years of experience performing systems administration in a Tier 2 IT support environment.
• Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) certification within six months of employment.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory and SCCM.
• Experience with storage, backup, and recovery system concepts.
• Ability to troubleshoot application and hardware issues effectively.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with virtual server environments, such as Hyper-V.
• Familiarity with enterprise applications, including Oracle Database and Microsoft Office.
