About the position

The IT Support Specialist at LeMoyne-Owen College plays a crucial role in providing technical support to faculty, staff, students, and alumni. This position is responsible for troubleshooting and maintaining the college's IT systems, ensuring that technology operates smoothly across the campus. The specialist will offer support through various channels, including phone, email, and in-person interactions, making it essential to have strong communication skills and a customer service-oriented approach. The ideal candidate will possess a solid foundation in Windows 10 and basic cybersecurity principles, along with a proactive problem-solving mindset. In this role, the IT Support Specialist will manage Active Directory, including user creation and computer addition to the domain. They will configure and troubleshoot DNS and DHCP, administer print and file services, and manage network shares and drive mappings on user devices. Additionally, the specialist will support Windows Terminal Server and remote applications, addressing connectivity and printing issues related to Active Directory. The position also involves managing mailboxes and distribution groups within the Exchange Server environment, troubleshooting email issues, and handling cloud and onsite spam filters. The specialist will provide desktop support for Windows 10 and Office 365, troubleshoot hardware and software issues, and assist with mobile device management, particularly for iOS devices. Networking responsibilities include basic troubleshooting of Meraki firewalls, VPN clients, and VLANs, as well as monitoring backups and antivirus clients on endpoints. The IT Support Specialist will also play a role in cybersecurity by assisting in monitoring and responding to security incidents, enforcing IT security policies, and participating in security awareness training for users.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to faculty, staff, students, and alumni via phone, email, and in-person.
  • Manage Active Directory, including creating users and adding computers to the domain.
  • Configure and troubleshoot DNS and DHCP.
  • Administer print and file services, manage network shares, drive mappings, and print shares on user devices.
  • Support Windows Terminal Server, remote apps, and Active Directory-related connectivity and printing issues.
  • Manage mailboxes, distribution groups, and other Exchange-related tasks.
  • Troubleshoot email issues within the Exchange environment.
  • Manage cloud and onsite spam filters, including whitelisting senders.
  • Provide support for voice networks and phone systems, including voicemail setup and authentication issues.
  • Provide support for Windows 10 and Office 365, troubleshooting hardware and software issues.
  • Manage printing and system refreshes, including upgrading systems.
  • Support iOS devices and assist with mobile phone setup and Exchange account management.
  • Perform basic network troubleshooting, with familiarity in Meraki firewalls, VPN clients, and VLANs.
  • Troubleshoot wireless network issues and monitor backups and antivirus clients on endpoints.
  • Advise on infrastructure and equipment needs, including end-of-life servers and networking equipment.
  • Assist in monitoring and responding to basic security incidents and enforce IT security policies.

Requirements

  • High School diploma required; Associate's degree or higher preferred.
  • 3-5 years of technical support experience.
  • Proficient with Windows 10, iOS, and Microsoft Office (2010, 2013, 2016, Office 365).
  • Basic understanding of cybersecurity principles and best practices.
  • A+ Certification or other relevant technical certifications are a plus.
  • Understanding of Canvas LMS Software is preferred but not required.
