About the position

The North Carolina Administrative Office of the Courts (NCAOC) is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to fill the role of IT Support Specialist within the Applied Technology Services (ATS) division. This temporary, full-time position is expected to conclude on January 31, 2025, and is primarily focused on providing production information technology support for judicial personnel in Buncombe County. The IT Support Specialist will be responsible for the configuration and support of various information technology components, including switches, servers, desktop computers, laptops, and local/network printers, as well as other technology devices utilized throughout the Judicial Branch. The ATS division operates 24/7, providing customer-focused services as both Desktop OS Tier 3 support and field staff for other sections, including networking, servers, and other systems in their assigned regional areas. The role requires the IT Support Specialist to deliver customer support in accordance with Service Level Agreements established by the NCAOC's IT department. This includes installing, configuring, and maintaining hardware and software for judicial staff, ensuring proper integration of all computer system components, and staying updated on rapidly changing hardware and software technologies. In addition to technical support, the IT Support Specialist will interface with Judicial Branch staff and local government officials, listen to customers to identify problems, and facilitate necessary corrections or assist vendors in resolving issues. The position also involves providing training for judicial staff, testing and recommending hardware and software configurations, and participating in large technology deployment projects, which may include statewide software updates and server upgrades. The work environment is primarily office-based, with occasional lifting of heavy objects (up to 75 pounds) and exposure to hazardous electrical components during the configuration of personal computers. Applicants must reside within the support area or be willing to relocate to be considered for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Provide customer support in accordance with Service Level Agreements set forth by the NCAOC's IT department.
  • Support personal computer systems by installing, configuring, and maintaining hardware and software for judicial staff.
  • Understand computer systems to ensure that all components will integrate properly.
  • Remain abreast of rapidly changing hardware and software technology.
  • Provide support to local area networks by installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting LAN hardware and software.
  • Interface with Judicial Branch staff and local government officials.
  • Listen to customers to identify problems, then make necessary corrections or assist vendors in corrective actions.
  • Facilitate moves and relocations of judicial facilities, including courthouses and other office locations.
  • Provide training for judicial staff on an as-needed basis.
  • Test and recommend hardware and software configurations on an as-needed basis.
  • Participate in large technology deployment projects that may include statewide software updates, server upgrades, and eCourts initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Math, Engineering, or other related technical degrees from an appropriately accredited institution, and one (1) year of progressive experience in the field of information technology.
  • Management prefers candidates with at least four (4) years of experience in an appropriate field of information technology.
  • Professional certification (e.g., MCP, MCSE, CompTIA A+, Network+, CCNA, etc.) recommended, but not required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Windows 11/10, Office 2016/365, SCCM, BitLocker, Cisco AMP, Cisco ISE, Windows Defender, Absolute, Windows Server 2022/2012/16, PowerShell.
  • Familiarity with software packages such as TN3270, SharePoint Designer, and Adobe Professional.
  • Experience with Cisco servers, routers, voice gateways, and switches.
