About the position

The IT Support Specialist I at G&H Towing Company is a critical role responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the organization's technology systems, which are essential for 24/7 operations. This position involves providing day-to-day level 1 and level 2 technical support to all personnel across multiple geographically dispersed locations, including the vessel fleet. The specialist will be the first point of contact for incoming support requests, managing these through a ticketing system, and ensuring that all requests are resolved in accordance with departmental standards. The role requires a strong focus on device and operating system deployment, maintenance, and inventory management, as well as the ability to troubleshoot both mainstream and proprietary software and hardware issues. In addition to technical support, the IT Support Specialist will assist in the setup of new offices or relocations, which may involve lifting equipment up to 50 lbs. The position also requires the development and maintenance of accurate departmental documentation and reference materials for users, as well as the compilation and maintenance of an accurate inventory of hardware and software. The specialist will provide end-user assistance and training, ensuring that all employees are equipped to use the technology effectively. The role demands excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, as the specialist will interact with various stakeholders, including G&H employees, executive leadership, mariners, and third-party vendors. The ability to work independently and manage multiple demands while maintaining service standards is crucial. The position may require working beyond regular hours during critical or planned outages, and out-of-regional travel may be necessary for training or work-related events. Overall, the IT Support Specialist I plays a vital role in supporting the organization's IT initiatives and ensuring operational continuity.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the initial point of contact for incoming support requests, entering all activities into the ticketing system, providing updates, and resolving requests per departmental standards.
  • Support and troubleshoot mainstream and proprietary software.
  • Support and troubleshoot hardware, including configuration, support, and fine-tuning.
  • Support peripheral devices including mobility devices, office copiers, printers, and cameras.
  • Develop and maintain accurate departmental documentation and helpful reference materials for users.
  • Assist in the compilation and maintenance of an accurate inventory of hardware and software.
  • Assist with new office setup or office relocations, including lifting equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • Provide end-user assistance and training.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; an advanced degree is preferred.
  • Five (5) or more years of experience in technical support working as part of a corporate IT support team using a ticketing system.
  • CompTIA A+ certification required.
  • Proficiency with computer hardware and software, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot effectively.
