About the position

The Technical Service Engineer position at the University of Texas Permian Basin's ITS Department involves providing technical support and troubleshooting IT-related issues within the College of Arts & Humanities. The role requires the integration of technical skills to assist with software installation, maintenance of audio/video equipment, and the design of local area networks. The engineer will be responsible for resolving technical issues across various systems and equipment, ensuring smooth operation and support for faculty and students.

Responsibilities

  • Install and configure computer applications.
  • Monitor and maintain computer networks.
  • Configure operating systems.
  • Assist with identifying and purchasing software and IT products.
  • Manage software life cycles of specialty applications.
  • Possess the ability to learn and work on changing and emerging technologies.
  • Serve as a first point of contact for clients for issues concerning their computer systems and equipment.
  • Install new hardware and software on simulation and clinical lab specialty equipment and perform upgrades as necessary.
  • Interface with the equipment manufacturers; consult with technical support.
  • Oversee scheduled maintenance.
  • Interact with clients to resolve complex problems; provide unambiguously written instructions or technical manuals.
  • Maintain procedural documents and reports.
  • Follow standard procedures of the organization to resolve issues.
  • Coordinate project requirements between customers and other IT staff.
  • Document technical knowledge in the knowledge database.
  • Train people on how to use different types of systems.
  • Maintain historical records by documenting hardware and software changes and revisions.
  • Maintain client confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Two years of relevant experience in IT support or a related area.
  • Valid driver's license.
