About the position

As an IT Support Technician I, you will play a crucial role in providing professional and courteous technical support to our internal customers. Your primary responsibility will be to assist users effectively and in a timely manner through a variety of daily tasks and project duties. This position requires a strong commitment to customer service and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues efficiently. You will be the first point of contact for technical support, addressing inquiries and problems related to computer systems, networks, and other IT-related services. Your role will involve not only responding to support requests but also proactively identifying and resolving potential issues before they escalate. In this position, you will utilize your technical knowledge and skills to assist users with a range of issues, including but not limited to network services such as DNS, DHCP, SNMP, RADIUS, and various email, file, and print services. You will be expected to work within an issue tracking or ticketing system to document and manage support requests, ensuring that all interactions are recorded accurately. Your ability to communicate technical information clearly to non-technical users will be essential in helping them understand and resolve their issues. Additionally, you may be required to work outside of regular hours to meet departmental or company needs, demonstrating flexibility and dedication to your role.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to internal customers via phone and in-person.
  • Assist users with issues related to networking and computer technology.
  • Document and manage support requests using an issue tracking or ticketing system.
  • Communicate technical information effectively to non-technical users.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in a timely manner.
  • Support network services including DNS, DHCP, SNMP, and RADIUS.

Requirements

  • One or more years in a technical support role assisting customers by phone or in-person.
  • Two-year degree in networking or related degree or equivalent experience.
  • Intermediate knowledge of networking and/or computer technology and hardware.
  • Understanding of network services such as DNS, DHCP, SNMP, RADIUS, email, file, and print services.
  • Demonstrated experience of working within an issue tracking or ticketing system.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Possession of any unexpired computer/computer networking certifications (i.e. CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, ACMT, DOSD).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience supporting a mid-sized computer network.
  • Experience working in a technical field role, such as a help desk technician.
  • Experience with tools such as cable crimpers, Ethernet testers, Wi-Fi analyzers, etc.
  • CCENT certification.
