Perform a variety of working level technical duties as needed to install, maintain, and troubleshoot standard PC and network hardware and software, and assist users in identifying and resolving computer system and software problems.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, evaluate and prioritize incoming requests for assistance from users experiencing problems with computer hardware, software, networking, and other technologies.
  • Participate in the ongoing process of evaluating and determining methods for upgrading and maintaining county-wide technical operations.
  • Handle problem recognition, research, isolation, resolution and follow-up for routine user problems.
  • Contact software and hardware vendors to request service regarding defective products.
  • Install, test, troubleshoot, and maintain computer systems' hardware and software.
  • Assist in the installation of network infrastructure equipment including cabling plants and telecommunications hardware.
  • Assist in monitoring and troubleshooting of LAN and WAN system performance.
  • Provide first level 'Help Desk' services to county employee computer users.
  • Maintain on-line or manual trouble logs and resolve client requests.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned or required.

Requirements

  • An associate degree in Computer Information Technology or two years of post high school education or training in computer science or a related field.
  • Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience performing related duties.
  • Working knowledge of computer systems hardware and common operating systems and business application software.
  • Ability to receive and prioritize requests for assistance and work effectively with users.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with users, IT technicians, and vendors.
  • Ability to install and maintain computer hardware, software, and peripherals in a network environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Specialized training and/or certification in IT related areas.
  • Experience with TCP/IP protocols and diagnostic methods for identifying and resolving hardware and software problems.
