About the position

The IT System Administrator - Hardware Specialist is responsible for supporting retail system hardware and software, ensuring the smooth operation of Point-of-Sale (POS) systems and related devices. This role involves troubleshooting, maintaining, and configuring hardware, as well as providing training and support to end users. The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to work independently while managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced retail environment.

Responsibilities

  • Install, troubleshoot and monitor POS system hardware and application software.
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment, POS system issues, hardware issues and service requests.
  • Troubleshoot register connectivity and application failures.
  • Install, configure and maintain Xstore POS register hardware and software including software upgrades and patching.
  • Follow documented change management processes for system changes.
  • Update standard operating procedures (SOPs) as needed.
  • Conduct audits on existing systems by running reports and providing analyses of outputs.
  • Work with end users at all business levels on training requirements for the use of existing and new applications, including writing and delivering training material as needed.
  • Demonstrate initiative and ownership of hardware processes.
  • Perform rotational on-call duties, supporting 24/7 processes critical to retail operations.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as an IT Technician or similar role.
  • Hardware knowledge and experience in installing and replacing computers and peripherals.
  • Experience supporting mobile apps on Zebra (Android), Windows, and Apple devices and software.
  • Knowledge of Oracle Linux.
  • Excellent diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to apply knowledge from previous projects and platforms to new environments and software packages.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with competing and shifting priorities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Sound reasoning, analytical, and problem-solving aptitude.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment, and possess strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Adept at reading, writing, and interpreting technical documentation and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to present ideas and solutions in user-friendly language.

Nice-to-haves

  • A strong knowledge of IT in general, including familiarity with various programming languages, tracing and debugging, and software development tools.
  • Previous retail customer service experience strongly desired.
  • Knowledge of xStore Point-of-sale (POS) strongly desired.
  • Understanding of SQL, JAVA and development methodologies.
  • Experience with project management platforms such as Jira and Confluence experience highly preferred.
