About the position

The IT System Administrator I is an entry-level position responsible for managing and supporting the desktop computing environment within Carilion Clinic. This role involves researching and implementing new technologies, maintaining the desktop environment, and providing third-level support. The administrator will ensure the security and efficiency of IT systems, respond to outages, and manage corporate projects requiring collaboration with multiple teams. The position requires proficiency in Microsoft 365 and related technologies, with a focus on creating a modern, secure, and fault-tolerant desktop environment.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and administer a Modern Desktop environment that is highly available, fault tolerant and secure for the enterprise with moderate supervision.
  • Maintain operating efficiency and stability, ensuring the security and integrity of all IT systems and data, and respond to outages and other issues.
  • Perform IT system administration activities such as creating, modifying, and deleting users, optimizing remote access, and security access for messaging systems, databases, and web applications.
  • Coordinate with department leadership to plan, design, and schedule the release of all software, hardware, and operating system updates.
  • Prioritize and respond to requests for service and provide escalation support to helpdesk staff.
  • Administer IT systems using tools such as Tanium, Active Directory, Azure Active Directory, Microsoft SCCM, Microsoft WSUS, and McAfee EPO.
  • Create and maintain system images for deployment to desktop/workstations in the enterprise.
  • Work with other IT Support teams and third parties to assist and guide on all aspects of Microsoft 365 services and their integration into existing environments.
  • Develop reference materials for supported workstation technologies and associated management technologies for training purposes.
  • Provide input on areas of improvement and develop plans for associated changes required as part of the RCA process.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's/Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, healthcare, business, or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Minimum two years of related experience preferred in deployment and configuration of current Windows operating system, supporting and implementing changes for Azure Active Directory.
  • Microsoft 365 Certified: Fundamentals within the first year of employment.
  • Microsoft 365 Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate within the first year of employment.
