About the position

The IT System Administrator / Trade Support role is a critical position within our trading company, which specializes in algorithmic trading systems. This position is based in our Chicago, IL office and is designed to cover the Asian trading session hours. The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic team that includes software engineers, quants, and IT experts, all dedicated to managing our proprietary trading systems. The role involves not only monitoring and supporting our algorithmic trade execution system but also overseeing a web-based real-time middle and back-office risk system. This is an onsite position that requires a commitment to ensuring the seamless operation and security of our IT systems across various environments. The primary responsibilities of the IT System Admin / Trade Support include intensive monitoring of multiple systems and markets during the designated shift hours, which are Monday through Thursday from 2:30 PM to 11:30 PM CST and Sunday from 4:00 PM to 11:30 PM CST. The role demands a proactive approach to system performance, with a focus on improving reliability and addressing any issues that may arise. The candidate will also be responsible for basic network troubleshooting and providing support to both management and system users through various communication channels, including email, Microsoft Teams, and telephone. This position is ideal for individuals who thrive in a fast-paced environment and possess a strong technical background, particularly in Linux operating systems. The ability to communicate effectively and work independently is essential, as is a keen attention to detail and a passion for analytical problem-solving. Responsibilities

  • Intensive monitoring of multiple systems and markets during the shift.
  • Ensuring seamless operation and tight security of IT systems across various environments.
  • Monitoring system performance and seeking ways to improve reliability.
  • Basic network troubleshooting (ping, nslookup, traceroute, netstat, telnet).
  • Supporting both management and system users/clients through email, Microsoft Teams, and telephone communication.

Requirements

  • Technical degree (BS or BA).
  • Experience in a technical support role.
  • Strong Linux OS knowledge and experience.
  • Familiarity with Windows System administration.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong independent work ethic with attention to detail.
  • Outstanding analytical skills and passion for investigative research.

Nice-to-haves

  • Technical support experience in the trading industry.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft SQL Server administration.
  • Experience with SQL, Python, C#, R, or C++.
  • QA testing experience or scripting skills.
  • Familiarity with bash, ssh, and Nagios.
