About the position

The IT System Administrator position at Scientific Research Corporation involves a comprehensive role in managing and maintaining systems that support the Modeling, Simulation & Analysis Directorate at the Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory. The successful candidate will be responsible for deploying, configuring, operating, and maintaining all systems, ensuring they function optimally to meet the needs of the organization. This role requires a hands-on approach to technical issues, including troubleshooting and resolving system, software, and network-related problems. The IT System Administrator will also be tasked with performing root cause analysis to identify and rectify issues effectively. In addition to technical responsibilities, the position requires regular communication with U.S. Marine Forces Units, Government Customers, Contractors, and other stakeholders. This communication is vital for discussing statuses, solving problems, exchanging information, and maintaining productivity. The IT System Administrator will produce reports indicating the status of configuration items and communicate these to management, providing insights into system performance and issues. The role also includes administrative tasks such as setting up and terminating user accounts, managing access rights, and assisting in network administration. The IT System Administrator will work closely with team members and must be a self-starter, capable of working with minimal supervision while contributing to a collaborative team environment. The position requires a Security+ certification and compliance with DoD 8570 standards, emphasizing the importance of security in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Deploys, configures, operates, and maintains all systems in support of the Modeling, Simulation & Analysis Directorate, Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory
  • Performs root cause analysis of system, software, and network-related issues
  • Reviews and provides feedback for system and program-related documentation
  • Acts as the technical point of contact for many issues, tracking, managing, and resolving technical issues within the systems
  • Communicates regularly with U.S. Marine Forces Units, Government Customers, Contractors, and other stakeholders to discuss statuses and solve problems
  • Produces reports indicating the status of configuration items and communicates to management
  • Provides input to schedules to track document delivery milestones
  • Assists in network administration regarding user accounts and access rights
  • Sets up and/or terminates user accounts following policy and procedure, grants access rights to users, and assists in changes to accounts and user rights

Requirements

  • At least four (4) years of experience in System Administration
  • Familiar with the functions of the Windows registry, directory structure, and Group Policy
  • Hands-on technical experience configuring, securing, and troubleshooting Windows domains, services (DHCP, DNS, WINS), and applications
  • Experience with Windows-based systems administration/configuration/installation
  • MS Server 2012, 2012 R2, 2016 installation and configuration
  • Windows 10 installation and configuration
  • Active Directory configuration
  • Group Policy installation/maintenance
  • Software Distribution
  • Workstation management/installation
  • Experience with Red Hat Linux Operating Systems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Self-starter with the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Must have a Security+ certification or other certification for DoD 8570 compliance
