About the position
A client of ours is seeking an IT Systems Engineer for their IT Operations Team. This position is integral to supporting the corporate computing environment, which encompasses both on-premises and cloud infrastructures. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical depth and excellent communication skills, demonstrating an understanding of the importance of teamwork. The role requires a willingness to work nights and weekends, as well as being on-call to support the organization. This is a hybrid position, necessitating on-site presence three days a week at the headquarters located in Farmington Hills, MI. The IT Systems Engineer will be responsible for designing and standardizing system configurations, maintaining Microsoft Windows Server, VMware Cluster, and Data Storage environments. Additionally, the engineer will manage backup and recovery operations, maintain Azure virtual machines, storage, and networking, and execute disaster recovery procedures. A critical aspect of the role involves incident resolution, ensuring that all technical issues impacting production are resolved promptly. The engineer will also manage projects, adhering to timelines and deliverables, while working closely with Security and Compliance teams to address vulnerabilities in a timely manner. Adherence to Change Management Policies and Guidelines is essential, as is the creation and maintenance of runbooks and automation processes.
Responsibilities
- Design and standardize system configurations
- Maintain Microsoft Windows Server, VMware Cluster and Data Storage environments
- Manage backup and recovery operations
- Maintain Azure virtual machine, storage, and networking
- Execute and maintain disaster recovery procedures
- Responsible for Incident Resolution and resolve all technical issues impacting production in a timely manner
- Manage projects and meet deliverables according to a set timeline
- Vulnerability resolution, work closely with Security, Compliance, and other teams to ensure vulnerabilities are resolved in a timely manner
- Adherence to Change Management Policies and Guidelines
- Create and maintain runbooks and automation.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, business administration, or equivalent work experience
- 3+ years' experience in an IT Operations role, administering servers, storage, in a professional environment
- 3+ years' experience supporting VMware, Citrix, and Microsoft technologies
- Strong working knowledge of core technologies such as AD, DNS, DHCP, SCCM, and TCP/IP
- Experience with scripting languages/platforms. Strong PowerShell is required.
- Experience with server application monitoring systems
- Experience with backup systems for both on-premises and cloud
- Ability to set priorities and see work through to completion in a timely manner
- Excellent troubleshooting, analytical and critical thinking skills
- Exceptional customer service skills, ability to work independently and as a team
- Self-motivated and ability to demonstrate self-initiative
- Ability to lift 30-50lbs without assistance
- Willingness to work nights, weekends, participate in project based and on call activities outside of normal business hours
- Up to 15% travel as needed for office visitation/upgrades/projects
